issue8346 has been implemented so this one is no more needed.
For me, it is better to work on issue8346
No there will be no backport on translations.
Dates of last commit of the files are here: https://bitbucket.org/flyingcircus/pycountry/src/16.10.23rc1/src/pycountry/locales/fr/LC_MESSAGES/ seems 2016-10-23
I'm wondering if we should make this a bug and backport to released series so users can update the translations. Do you know when pycountry switched the files?
The iso code use in script translate_pycountry.py are outdated. Old file iso3166 for country and iso3166_2 for subdivision. New file iso3166-1 for country and iso3166-2 for subdivision.
